Laminates, Laminates, Laminates

We arrived to see that all the homogenous tiles were laid and covered with cardboard. The rooms were ready for cement screeding in the weekends, I guess the only way to check is after the chemical wash. Proceed to the fast food outlet opposite to discuss about the colours and laminates. Our FSM had already decided the wall colours for us so it's only the shades that we had to discuss on. There were so many shades of colours to choose from. Besides that, laminates were also a big lot to consider. It was such a long process to choose and by the end of it, my eyes were already @@ and I can't really remembered what I chose. :P

Like a jigsaw puzzle

The tiler is starting work today and we thought we should just pop by to take a look. Tiles were already delivered and slowly laid piece by piece. By the end of the day, they have finished the living room flooring and laying cement for the passageway. Kitchen tiles were also bought to do the base for fridge and service yard area.

Shopping spree!

We met our ID at the house today to review the progress for the week. So far so good, all the wiring were up and false ceilings half done. Next week, they will be completing the ceilings and tiles will be delivered.

We popped by Euro Stars Lightings to shop for our lights. As with other lighting shops, the variety there was enough for us to decide fairly quickly what we want - simple and modern. No fancy stuff except for a small crystal light for our foyer and our dining hanging lights. We were satisfied with simple hamburger, milk tin, tubes and down lights. The difficult part was deciding what size and bulb of the down lights we want for each area of the house. In the end, we had all sizes (S,M,L) and warm and cool day lights. Our damage was a total of $1888. *sweat*


Since we were already in the Balestier area, we crossed over to Tapz Gallery to see look see look which in turn cost us a kitchen sink and tap. Haha... Also gotten our Rinnai hood and hob there. Another damage of $1838. *More sweat*

Afterwards, we had dinner together and our ID introduced us to this famous curry puff right at a corner, and we packed some to bring over to his office for a peek at their new showroom as well as to collect some laminate samples for us to consider. A piece of homework for us both before we discussed further with him on what we want.

Electrical works...

The CityGas guys came over to lay our gas pipes in the morning and the workers were here to line all the electrical works. Those guys were so engrossed in their work (or they just simply dun bother to see) that Jim had walked straight into our unit unnoticed. When and where he learnt the art of invisibility, I do not know. *grin*

Start work lor!

The air-con men came to set up the cables and pipings in the afternoon. They did the trunking as per discussed previously and the end results looked pretty good. Our gate was also fixed by the HDB guy and even repainted some areas without us asking. Nevertheless, it's a good start. :)

Busy day...

We brought Kenji to our new house for the first time, and the silly boy was happily running around the whole place, playing hide and seek with us. The next time he sees it will be after renovation, I guess he won't be able to recognise the place then.

Met up with the electrician and discussed over the adding, shifting of points and placement of switches for our lights. He sounded quite experienced but his quote is slightly expensive. Not sure if the price increment of copper is the cause of it. He is actually doing the electrical connection for the unit above us so we went over to take a look. Will decide further after our discussion on his quotation.

Choosing our tiles

Met up with our ID early in the morning to choose the tiles for the living area. Our package only covered for homo tiles up to $2.80 psf so we may need to top up a hundred or two. Initial idea was to choose matte tiles for child-friendly but we can't find anything nice (it either looked like cardboard paper or too coarse) even after seeing 10 of them. Giving up, we decide to look at some of the glossy ones and found our ideal piece. It cost $3.20 and it wasn't as slippery as I thought unless there is water on it. Our total selection time took about 35 minutes.

While driving to our house later on, our ID shown us a tentative schedule he drew up as well as some amended drawings. I was quite pleased with the revised dining area but still have some comments on his feature wall for my living room. Nevertheless I hope we could fix that. We also told him to offset our shower screen for the common toilet for the service yard windows as we felt that a shower curtain seemed to be more practical at this point.

Up till now, I am still not sure if I want to do a custom TV console for my MBR as I am not confident of getting an off the rack one for our limited space. Definitely something to think about which was why I decided to let them do our side tables. I will be buying a bed frame as I wanted fabric/PVC leather headboard and sides cos clumsy me always knock into the sharp edges of the wood.

We briefly talked about the electrical planning and arranged to meet up with the electrician for a quotation tomorrow. I don't think we need any extra electrical points except for my WIW and altar. More updates tomorrow.
