We had the forces of hot (my id) and cold (air-con men) over at our place today. In case why you wonder i classified him as hot, he actually made the 5 of us wait for him while he rushed over and ended up half hour late. All designers should have the passion in what they do. :P At least I do experienced that when i did my design work. We felt honored and same time guilty, for making the 3 air-con men wait, so I went over Shop N Save to get us some cold can drinks.
Their discussion about the air-con trunking left Jim and I in blurry clouds. We were helpless about how it should be run and how to hide it. We could only leave it in their good hands to join forces and come out with something for us.
After all the ahhs, yes, okies, right...settled, the nice people left and we went over to the nearby fast food place to finalize our quotation. It came up to a hefty sum but we wanted the best for our house, and most probably going to stay for a long time unless we strike 4D, I guessed we could make do with it. We will need to report the defects as well on our door and gate. We decided to close one eye on the minor ones and also not to delay our renovation.

2.) Gate cannot close properly
3.) Small chip-off on main door
4.) Bomb shelter door dent
5.) Bomb shelter door cannot lock fully
6.) Pen-knife cut on joint of kitchen tiles
7.) Hairline crack on wall at service yard
8.) Rubber seal on window not cropped to length
9.) Cracks on MBR bathroom door
10.) Chip on one toilet tile in MBR Bathroom
11.) Small dent on edge of common toilet door

First glimpse of our love haven
We opened door to our house today with our FS master's guidance. First impression was alot of cobwebs and dust collected on our main gate. :P I think our unit was only ready in Feb but the amount of dust made it looked as though it's been vacant for ages! Spotted a few minor defects but nothing too serious. Nevertheless, it was too early to tell as we will only do a detailed inspection this weekend.
I was glad that our ID dropped by halfway through, and we consulted our FS master on the drafted designs. He will have to amend the drawings of the living and dining hall while the kitchen and master bedroom remained unchanged. Overall, it was a very fruitful experience and I was relieved to see both my FS master and ID worked together to help build our dream home.

We've got the keys!
We woke up early in the morning to collect our keys. There were even more papers to sign this time round but the lady who served us was very patient and friendly. Everything was clearly explained and done within an hour. The keys are finally in our hands. Keke...
Managed to go Rinnai Showroom to look at their cooking hoods and hobs. The nice lady there introduced their range of products to us and explained the features in detail. In the end, I was convinced to get the ceran glass instead of the stainless steel inner flame hob which was my initial choice. I have phobia of the glass shattering but she told me so far they have not received any complaints about any cracks or whatsoever for the past 2 years. Besides, I don't really need 3 stoves and ceran glass is also supposed to be stronger than tempered glass.

Our last stop for the day was at our ID's showroom. We spent a good 1 hour discussing on the drawings and floor plan. We also invited him to come over this week and have a look at our flat so that he will have a clearer idea. Actually, I thought the proposed layout looks a bit "old" but maybe it's the colours or something. We should see about that again. *grin* Partly, it was my fault as well cos I forgot to bring the magazines' designs which I think are what I am looking at. How can I expect people to read my mind right. Definitely must remind myself to bring them the next time we meet. So far, I am glad we found him as our ID cos we could click well. He even sent the Bleach ringtone to me *been looking for that for ages* and we talked about the upcoming iphones. This is what I called "communication" with your ID is very important. Haha...

Laundry Appliance
Jim had given me the go ahead to make decision for our laundry appliance. After some research, I decided to go for a continental front load washer and dryer. Earlier this week, we had been to Best Denki to take a look at the models. After numerous calls to several neighbourhood shops, I have decided to order from a shop near our house. Reasons why we chose this shop is; they are near to our house (hopefully they won't charge delivery), able to keep stock for us till our house is ready, price is quite reasonable, and the lady boss is nice.

House visiting and window shopping!
We went over to a forummer house's today as they got almost the same floor plan as us. I din know that there are so many things to look out for when checking HDB defects. Hee... a pre-exercise before I do mine next week!
We also went to SSC to look at the different taps and sinks available. I discovered they are not cheap. Luckily, I am not looking for anything fanciful, just the decent stainless steel type will be practical and good enough.

Visit to the Expo exhibition
Saw on the forum that there is an exhibition at Expo this week, so we went down to take a look and gathered some ideas. Was surprised that the Robinsons Sale is held there as well as the Angela Zhang concert. Luckily we still managed to get a parking lot despite all the traffic.
Before this, Jim and I had already agreed to engage a contractor to do the renovation. I will be in charge of sourcing for the design and colors. Thus, with a mattress purchased, naturally the next to look out for is a nice bed frame to fit it. There was a booth right in the middle of the hall which customized bed frame in either fabric or PU. The offer price was $1599 with a storage space underneath. Both of us cannot come to a conclusion on having a storage a not, therefore we could not commit on the spot. I don't think I could afford to say yes and later changed my mind as they may request more money for the additional stuff and it's either we take it or forfeit our deposit. Moreover, we consulted his brother and the price was a bit steep.
Anyway, we were not really keen on approaching any of the IDs there since our contractor was a recommendation. While trying to "steal" ideas, we were approached by a guy from V***** Interiors. He offered to size up a quotation and drawings based on our requirements, no deposit needed. He seemed quite new and I suspected he was more a sales person than design. Another interesting thing is, he kept telling us not to call him after 10pm as he will be sleeping and he don't want to speak to us subconsciously. I don't really believed that as usually they tell you that to ensure you will not disturb them after work. So what if I discovered something not right in the midst of renovating which needs to be rectified immediately next morning? * minus brownie points already* Only plus point about him is his enthusiasm and not so pushy.
At the back of the hall are two showrooms by different IDs. We were thinking of following others in so that we won't be "targeted". Haha... bad idea as we got "exposed" when we were just walking into the kitchen area after bypassing the living room. So there we go again, being ushered to sit down and "chit chat". Why I decided to give them a chance in the first place, was because I remembered seeing a fellow forumer's house which was done by them last year. It gave me a good impression that a 4 room unit can also looked like a condo apartment. Alas, sad to say the guy who entertained us only left a bad impression.

What my thinking was, wasn't it supposed to be taking on one package and adding extra stuff? The two packages already over our budget and with no quotation and drawings shown yet. When Jim needs to excuse himself, I had simply nothing to talk with this guy cos all he did was asked me what I want and filling in forms. After leaving our contact details, Jim told me right away there is no need to consider.

I had told him about the designs they did which also don't come cheap, and I wasn't sure if the ID I was looking for is around. We soon found ourselves talking comfortably with him and he doesn't made us felt like filling in survey forms, like the earlier two did. It was a fair exchanging of ideas and suggestions. He gave answers for our questions and also drafted out a rough quotation for our additional requirements. Guess who we chose in the end?
